The Bang Pakong River is a major and vital river in Chachoengsao Province, utilized for consumption, agriculture, industry, water transportation, natural dolphin-watching tourism, as well as serving as an essential fishing ground, aquaculture site, and coastal fisheries hub.
However, the current status of marine and coastal resources has alarmingly degraded. The mangrove forest area at the mouth of the Bang Pakong River has decreased significantly as a result of changes in land use along the riverbanks.
Origins and Marine Resource Conservation Operations
Bangkok Document Co., Ltd. has collaborated with the Network for Monitoring the Destruction of Marine and Coastal Resources at the Mouth of the Bang Pakong River, recognizing the urgent necessity to conduct activities that build awareness for the conservation and restoration of marine and coastal resources. This aims to remind government agencies, citizens, private organizations, and tourists studying the ecosystem to pay attention to the invaluable marine and coastal resources at the mouth of the Bang Pakong River, a project initiated since 2012.
Success from Past to Present
The Mangrove Forest Conservation and Restoration Project and the Restoration of the Nature Study Trail for the Sama Crab Bank in front of Wat Khong Karam was the first project in which Bangkok Document Co., Ltd. (KDC) participated alongside the Network for Monitoring the Destruction of Marine and Coastal Resources at the Mouth of the Bang Pakong River, leading up to the current Fish Home and Dolphin Food Source Project, which has been implemented and achieved great success.
